5/8/09 -Friendswood erupted for 8 runs in the first inning in their district 24-4A showdown with the Angleton Wildcats and never looked back, winning the District Title 15-2 on Angleton's home field. Eight of the first Nine Friendswood batters reached safely in the first inning. Brandon Hollier laced a bases loaded double to left to score two and Jessie Flores followed with a 2 rbi check swing roller down the 3rd base line that enabled Forrest Allday to beat the throw to the plate...and when the ball rolled away, Brandon Hollier scampered home to put the Mustangs up 8-0. It was more than enough for 24-4A pitcher of the year Kyle Burris as he went the distance picking up the win while striking out 10. The Mustangs really poured it on in the 3rd inning as they loaded the bases again and University of Houston signee Alex Anastas at the plate. Anastas launched his second Grand Slam of the season over the center field wall to push the Mustang lead to 13-1. Austin Fitzpatrick continued his hot streak at the plate going 3-3 with a double and Cody Bergeson also had a double for Friendswood

3/12/09 - On a  rainy dreary day at Alvin Community College, Mustang Varsity Baseball faced Austin (Fort Bend) High School.  Austin is a strong 5A team with a 8-3-1 record, and for a while there it looked like they would dominate, but our boys never hung their heads coming back to tie the game in the 7th.  The game culminated in an exciting - yet unusual tie situation in the 8th. Preston Schulze took the mound for the Mustangs, the first batter, a signee to Texas Tech hit a double.  The next batter hit a sac fly to center to advanced the runner to 3rd. Unfortunately there was an error after securing the 2nd out and a run was scored.  Preston finished the inning by striking out (looking) the batter.  The Mustangs came out looking strong, Cody Bergeson hit a double but the next batter resulted in a 1-6-3 double play, and we ended the 1st unable to answer the run. In the 2nd inning, 2 outs were made in fast order by a 6-3 and a 5-3. However an unlucky error gave the 3rd batter the base.  As a slow cold drizzle began to come down on the field the base runner stole 2nd. The next batter hit a single advancing the runner to 3rd. Back to the top of the Austin order answered with a double and an RBI.  In a strange Bulldog base running error the Mustangs were able to get the last out 7-2. Unfortunately we also committed a base running error and were unable to score in the 2nd. By the 3rd inning the drizzle turned into a short downpour and both teams were held scoreless. IN THE 4th, with the rain stopping and the temperature dropping the Bulldogs added 2 more runs to their lead with a double and a HR.   After 2 walks, it looked like were poised to make our comeback but ended up leaving 2 runner on base, finishing the 4th still scoreless. The 5th inning was wrought with errors for the Mustangs, between that and a few strung together hits the Bulldogs were able to add on 4 more runs.  Griffin Davis was brought in to relieve and was able to  secure the last 2 outs. The 5th inning was also the beginning for the Friendswood bats springing to life.  Forrest Allday lead off with a stand-up double, Michael Ruiz advanced the runner and Cody Bergeson secured the RBI.  Although the game was now 8-1 you could sense the change coming. The 6th inning left the Bulldogs with out any further runs and then - watch out - here come the Mustangs! Alex lead off with a BB followed by Austin Fitzpatrick with a BB, Jordan Johnson had a base hit loading up the bases, then with 2 outs Forrest was HBP.  With bases still loaded left handed hitter Michael Ruiz came up & ripped the ball down the 1st base line - earning 2 RBI's and a stand up double.  This caused the Bulldogs to have a pitching change, but it was too late we were on fire.  Cody chopped the ball up the middle earning a base hit and 2 RBI's.  Kevin Thornton was issued a BB. While we left  3 on base to end the inning the score was now 7-6 bulldogs. A bit of our bad luck returned in the top of the 7th, and unfortunately 2 hits and an error let 2 Bulldog runners score. In the bottom of the 7th, Kyle Singleton lead-off with a single followed by a walk to Jordan and finally an error went in our favor to load the bases.  Forrest hit another double and got 2 RBI's.  This caused another Bulldog pitching change.  Michael came up and had a well placed single to earn 2 more RBI's.  And just like that the score was tied. This resulted in an interesting and hardly ever seen situation in baseball - ITB (international tie breaker) for the 8th Inning.  The Bulldogs started the inning with a runner on 2nd and the batter starts with a 2-1 count.  Davis was able to end the 8th , striking out the batter looking. Unfortunately we were also unable to score and the game ended in a 10-10 tie.

Preston Schulze - pitched 4 1/3 innings, 9 hits, 3 K's and 4 Earned runs
