Friendswood Mustangs High School Baseball News

6/5/10 - FW falls to Brenham 8-6 in a great series. FW got behind 6-0 in the first and never quit. We scrapped back and made it an 8-6 final. Great job of pitching by Andrew Bossert to keep us in the game, 4 strong innings! FW should be very proud of this team, they pulled together and had a great playoff run, one of the top 3 playoff runs in FW history. Way to keep the legacy alive team!!

6/4/10 - Exciting doubleheader at Sam Houston. Mustangs win game 1 8-2 in 8 innings. Tyler Sullivan pitched a Complete game gem and put us up 5-1 with a grand slam in the top of the 8th! Nice job of quieting the critics, media and Brenham fans.  Brenham came out in Game 2 and their ace pitched a gem as well, beating us 4-1. Sophomore Jared Gaspard pitched very well also, throwing a complete game and allowing only 2 earned runs! Mustangs showed they are in the same league as this team, holding the Potent Brenham offense to 6 runs in 2 games, and they had been averaging 11 runs a game in their 16 game win streak!!

5/29/10 - Play by Play FW beats PNG 9-8 in 9 innings. Headed to Regional finals for the 2nd time in 3 years!! FW got out to a quick lead off of Kyle Singletons 2 run homerun. However the 2nd inning was not kind to us. We allowed 6 runs on 3 hits and 2 errors. Starting pitcher Speck pitched well enough to get out of that jam with no runs, but FW was now in a big hole. Sullivan relieved Speck in the 2nd and pitched well in the 3rd and 4th. We allowed 2 more runs in the 4th with 2 hits and 2 errors! We were now down 8-2. Will Hibbs came into pitch in the 5th inning and shut them down. Will allowed only 5 hits, no runs and struck out 7. Simply put - he fooled them with his stuff. The offense  started the comeback in the 4th behind hits by Neuman, Michael Goodwin and Gibbs. Kennemer, Johnson and Hollier walked. Speck, Kennemer and Gibbs had RBI's! We tied the game up in the 5th off of Specks two run homer!! Game went into extra innings and the real fun was in the 9th! Gibbs doubled to start the inning. Singleton was intentionally walked. Will Hibbs laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move Holle, pinch running for Gibbs, and Singleton over to 3rd and 2nd. Connor Neuman laid down a squeeze bunt but Holle was gunned down at home. With 2 outs and 2 strikes to Michael Goodwin - Connor timed his break to 2nd to draw a throw perfectly, the pitcher was distracted and balked home the winning run, Kyle Singleton!! Wow!

Here is the play by play of one of the most exciting games in FW's history!!

5/28/10 - Wow - We came out flat and PNG came out hot. No need to talk about this one too much more PNG 17 - FW - 0. All that means is that we have won one and so have they!! Game 3 tomorrow at 2:00!!
